What made you select MRC Components Nanocrystalline Power Ferrites as a product to feature?
Increased efficiency does not require new designs. When resources are restricted, companies are hesitant to change established designs to meet the expectations of increasing efficiency.
In the short term, a design adjustment does not have to be made to increase the efficiency of existing filters; it can also be done without putting in a lot of effort. Simply replacing individual components can increase efficiency effectively without having to adjust the associated parameters in the filter.
With nanocrystalline strip material, the magnetic and mechanical setting can be adjusted to such an extent that it can be approximately equal to a used ferrite core. This means that no further adjustment of the filter needs to be made; the same number of turns and the same filter components can be used. However, by using the very thin strip of nanocrystalline material (14–20 µm), the EMC attenuation is increased, the saturation behavior (1.2T) is increased up to three times, the temperature resistance (570°C Curie temperature) has improved, and losses are largely reduced.
This trick helps to make existing filters more efficient temporarily until a new design is needed and the filter core can be replaced by a much smaller, nanocrystalline version with higher permeabilities.
