Meet Power Demands with Precision: Qorvo’s ACT4751M Tackles USB PD and Automotive Design Challenges
As system designers continue to push the envelope in automotive, USB PD, and high-performance LED applications, managing power efficiently and flexibly has become increasingly complex. Today’s designs demand compact, high-efficiency voltage regulation across wide input ranges, often under stringent thermal and EMI constraints. Whether supporting fast-charging protocols like USB PD 3.0, PPS or powering microcontrollers and VCONN lines in USB-C cables, engineers need versatile regulators that meet both space and performance requirements without compromising robustness or reliability.
Qorvo’s new ACT4751M directly addresses these design hurdles with a highly programmable, automotive-grade buck regulator optimized for compact, thermally constrained environments. With an input range of 4.5V to 40V, the ACT4751M integrates both high-side and low-side MOSFETs (50 mΩ each) to achieve high conversion efficiency while minimizing board space. Engineers can dynamically program output voltage from 3V to 24V in 12.5 mV increments via I²C or analog feedback, with current output adjustable up to 4A in 256 steps in constant-current mode. Ideal for USB Fast Charging and Quick Charge 4+ designs, it features a mini 5V / 350 mA buck and a 20 mA AUX LDO (0.9V–4.0V) for powering control ICs and USB-C VCONN lines. Its proprietary current-mode control features external clock sync switching frequencies 450 kHz–2.25 MHz, out of AM and spread spectrum operation.
